Please note Bush Braai and Foraging Activities are currently on pause until Easter 2024.

Bush Braai, Walk and a Movie

Would you like to explore an African forest and hear it come alive at dusk ?

Pick up a trail booklet at the farm and take our well-marked self-guiding trail into the Tswapong Hills.  Walk at your own pace, but make sure you are at the viewpoint over Palapye half an hour before dusk.

Two farm staff will be waiting for you there with the cold drink of your choice, a snack, and a torch.  Sit awhile and listen to the sounds of the forest as the day shift retires and the animals of the night take over.  Listen for the gentle cough of a duiker; the rattle of an African crested porcupine; or the nightly chorus of the black backed jackals.  There are animals aplenty in these hills, but no lions, elephants, buffalo or crocodiles.

The staff will make sure you don’t go astray on the way back down the track as darkness falls, and a barbecue dinner awaits back at the farm

A multimedia presentation on the geology, plants, animals, history and people of the Tswapong Hills will show on our outdoor screen as you dine. And if  you still have an appetite for nocturnal exploration you are welcome to walk one of the tracks on the farm itself.    African crested porcupines, duiker, African hedgehogs and Verraux’s eagle-owls are here every night, and honey badgers, steenbok and brown hyaena visit on occasion.  There is a listening station to help you disentangle the sounds of the nightly frog chorus; and we have a heterodyne bat detector to tune into the ultrasonic signals of any bats that are about. Torches provided.
